Clear Water
Ponds with Problems
Few subjects are so emotionally laden as the quality of water in ponds. You wanted the best and now you have a gray-green soup.
Nostrums are quickly dealt out, but many recommendations are only temporary cosmetic remedies. Also, what may help in one pond can be useless for the next, because the problems are completely different.
A soup of green algae spoils the joy of a pond.
In other ponds you get milky to grey-black clouds.
Ideal Open Air Laboratory
With its own park, NaturaGart possesses an ideal area for experimentation right on the doorstep. Visitors want to see fish swimming in clear water, and for years NaturaGart has been working on its clear water design.
The result is a logical and consistent design with one decisive advantage: It attacks the problem at the root. What can be done is shown on the photos from the underwater room.
April 23rd 2005: Single cell algae significantly hamper visibility.
May 9th 2005: About two weeks later the NaturaGart filters have done their job. 8m visibility.
NaturaGart possesses an open air laboratory on their doorstep. Visitors want to see clear ponds.
The filtration technology was developed over years in ponds with fish over a metre long.
The important difference: The ground consists of clean sand. Nothing can be swirled up and make the water cloudy.

Sediment - Core Problem
Many ponds are built as natural ponds that slowly silt up. The sludge on the ground grows upward and has to be removed at some point. If you introduce fish you'll normally see that they swirl up mud. Mud is like a compost heap on the ground of the pond. And if you spread out compost you get growth. If you swirl up mud you feed the algae.

About one to two centimetres of sediment accumulate in a pond every year.
When fish swirl up mud, the water becomes brown-grey-black.
Often There are no Underwater Plants
Many nutrients are invisibly dissolved in the water. Underwater plants absorb these nutrients and remove the nutritious base for the algae. Algae therefore are a sign of over-fertilisation. In spring this is normal, because many underwater plants rest during the winter. In most cases, however, algae mean that the pond has a problem that it can't solve by itself.
In many ponds the ground is covered with underwater plants. This helps the pond stay healthy.
On the other hand, many fish are vegetarian. Underwater plants don't stand a chance.
The Basic Concept
If you feed fish, you have to take care of the rests of feed. Underwater plants can help, often even better in a separate basin. To avoid sediment on the ground from being swirled up it has to be removed. If you only filter the water, this will not solve the problem, because new sediment forms all the time. For new ponds the construction of a NaturaGart filtration trench is recommended.
The NaturaGart target suction technology keeps the ground of the pond clean. Sediment is constantly removed...
...and deposited in a separate filtering trench. Only the trench has to be cleaned once in a while.
Target Suction Technology
NaturaGart has developed a system where a single pump can selectively remove sediment from different areas. Each area can be regulated from the shore with a gate valve. In addition, you can operate a skimmer with tis system. This system can also be installed later during a renovation. Read more about this here.
The principle works like this: Larger ponds have several suction points.
And this is what it looks like: The collector-well with pipes to the ground of the pond.
Technical Filters
Where tiny particles will not deposit, the NaturaGart filters can help. The modular concept can be adapted to the individual needs. The price to quality ratio is therefore extremely good. If very clear water is required a UV system is needed. Very small algae clump together and are retained by the filtering media. Read more about this here.
The NaturaGart filters consist of different modules that can be put together in various ways and are very effective.
Not only can the single modules be varied, the filters can also be combined into large installations.
Of Utmost Importance: The Pump
We have save over 90% of running costs in uncounted installations. Sometimes the cost for a better pump pays for itself after 3 months because of its power efficiency. Many pumps work without regard for nature: They kill newts, tadpoles and dragonflies. NaturaGart has developed a system that prevents such losses. Read more about this here.
NaturaGart also supplies an especially inexpensive range for installation in pump wells.
Indispensable: Pipes
They all look similar, but they aren't: Suction and pressure pipes from NaturaGart are more flexible than usual and withstand lower temperatures.
Some of the other pipes are  only stable down to several degrees above freezing!
One special feature is the inconspicuous black - instead of white - spiral and the labeling NaturaGart.

NaturaGart supplies pipes from 25 to 98mm interior diameter. Several measures have been adapted to the metric system and will fit into the sleeves of KG-pipe. These made-to-spec pipes are labeled NaturaGart.
There is also the possibility to perfectly camouflage the tubes.
Skimmers Clean the Surface
During some seasons of the year the water surface is covered with pollen, leaves and other suspended materials. Different types of skimmers clean the surface. The water is then filtered. By using the NaturaGart target suction technology, the costs of a second pump can be saved.

On some days masses of pollen fall onto surface of the water.
Skimmers clean the surface.

Regulate, control, monitor.
The more valuable the fish, the more important it is to control general conditions:
- Water level control
- Water distribution systems
- Flow regulation
- Aeration
