NaturaGart Surroundings: The Teutoburg Forest Print E-mail
Large forest area that came to fame as early as 2000 years ago when the Romans suffered a crushing defeat in the Battle of The Teutoburg Forest a bit further north from here.
The subduction of the Münsterland has piled up a 100m high mountain ridge.
The NaturaGart premises lie about 100m to the south of this mountain building area.

Rock formations can be found throughout the light mixed forest.
The forest is very varied. More of a recreation forest than a wood factory.

Rock formations can be found everywhere. The rare Eurasian Eagle-owl nests here.

Rock faces, where nearly vertical layers of limestone are quarried can be seen from NaturaGart. About 100 metres further on, the ground is made of sandstone which in places also forms vertical walls.

Driving to NaturaGart on the A30 motorway, you go through a 'mountain pass' that leads from Ibbenbüren to Dörenthe (Dör = door). The nearby Dörenthe Cliffs are a popular leisure and climbing destination for visitors from the Ruhr area and the Netherlands.

A network of well maintained hiking trails runs through the 'Teuto'.

The vertical rock faces in old quarries are popular with climbers.
